Navigating Shein

Shein is an online fashion retailer. And it is huge. Trying to navigate what to purchase, from which brand will give you a guaranteed headache. And to be truthful, not all of the products sold on Shein are of the quality that we are used to here in the United States.

Shein is a Chinese company based in Singapore. They opened their online doors in 2008, and became the world’s largest fashion retailer by 2022. I won’t lie and dismiss some of the controversy surrounding the company, but I am also looking for good deals on clothes, shoes, and jewelry. You must decide for yourself if this is a company you are comfortable buying from.

If you are, then I am here to help navigate the site and the multiple “stores” on it. Think of Shein like a mall, and the brands on the site as individual stores. When you go into a mall, you are looking for a specific style or brand that works best for you; you know what to look for. Just clicking on the Shein app should be the same, but without some easy guides, you’ll either be overwhelmed or worse picking up products that aren’t the quality you are used to. Just because a shoe is $5 on Shein doesn’t mean you will be able to wear it to the party tonight.

I have tried to find brands on Shein that sell products of good quality for a good price. I can not guarantee that everything you order from Shein is going to be the perfect thing you are looking for; there are duds. But I can narrow it down for you.

In case you missed the recent business news, Amazon is said to be working on a similar model as Shein and Temu (another popular site). The money Amazon is losing to these sites is in the billions; and of course, Amazon wants a piece of it. There is no set dates for when Amazon will launch this competitive site, but keep your ears open.

According to the site, The Fine Refine, there are some hacks that can make shopping easier. I encourage you to read her full blog to get all the details.

According to The Fine Refine:

  1. First, filter by category (what are you looking for).
  2. Filter by fabric (I do this by looking at what I already have, although as the author points out, polyester is a tricky one)
  3. Filter by color
  4. Know your measurements (remember this is a foreign company selling many different products)
  5. Read the reviews and zoom into the pictures (when zooming look at the seams, the misaligned prints, the crooked hems; everything you would look for if you saw it in person)
  6. Understand going in that you are looking at pieces that are cheaper than any other retail (the pieces aren’t meant to last forever, so don’t expect it).
  7. Use Honey or Coupert to find discount codes (Shein almost always has a 20% off but you might need to do some digging; and you may be able to stack coupons).
  8. Look for the dupes (Shein is known for creating clothes based on designer brands)

I don’t have affiliate codes with this site, but it is easy (with a little digging) to not only find codes but coupons as well. Also, they seem to have free shipping on Sundays

So, here is what I have found.
